While the day one picks might not have been popular, they were solid picks. Milliner was the best cornerback prospect and fills a big need for the Jets. Sheldon Richardson gives the Jets another stud on the defensive line to go along with Muhammad Wilkerson and Quinton Coples. The thing that Idzik did that I love the most is he added depth and competition at positions. With the Geno Smith pick, he put Mark Sanchez on notice. Smith seems like the quarterback of the future with the jets, and makes Sanchez expendable to be a June 1st cut.
One of the Jets biggest needs coming into the draft was guard. Idzik drafted three guys who can play guard, adding to Vlad Duccassse, Stephen Peterman, and Willie Colon already on the roster. While Idzik did not draft a safety, tight end, or Wide receiver, he filled those needs. In the un-drafted free agent period, he added Zach rodgers a receiver from Tennessee, who I think will thrive in the west coast offense.
While some of his picks were not popular, I really think John Idzik nailed the draft. He filled a lot of holes at quarterback, running back, defensive tackle, cornerback, and guard. Unlike Mike Tannenbaum, it seems like Idzik knows how to handle a draft.
