Grant in his Packer days
We all know what Rex wants the offense to be, a ground and pound run it down your throats type group. Well the Jets have Shonn Greene at running back, but they don't really have a proven backup. McKnight has put on weight, Ganaway is only a rookie, and Powell rode the bench last year. This leads me to the question, why don't the Jets sign former Packers running back Ryan Grant? Grant was an undrafted free agent in '05 and signed with the Giants. After two seasons as a bench warmer in New York, Grant was dealt to Green Bay.
Grant was a New York kid, going to high school close by in Jersey. He is only the third undrafted player ever to rush for over 1,200 yards in a season. Grant is 29 years old, and in 4 full seasons as a Packer put up over 4,000 yards, scored 25 touchdowns, and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Grant has had injury problems, but when healthy can be very hard to stop. If you pair him with Shonn Greene, it would really help the Jets offense. If I am Shonn Greene I am feeling a lot of pressure, because the Jets don't have other proven backs. If the Jets sign Grant, it would relieve Shonn Greene some of the pressure he is feeling. I am not saying Grant should be a big time back for us, I am just saying he could be a third down back. He was a great leader for the Packers, and really helped Rogers. I really think Tony Sparano needs to give this man a call.
