The first three guys to start with are Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, and Jason Smith. All three are almost certain to be cut, as a report last week alluded to. Cutting these three guys will free up 27.7 million for the Jets, getting them almost 8 million under the cap. Scott and Pace are two veteran linebackers, who did not contribute much to the Jets in 2012. Jason Smith, the former number two overall pick, has been a major NFL draft bust.
Some other names for Jets fans to look at as cuts are Sione Pouha, Eric Smith, Tim Tebow, and (although it won't happen) Mark Sanchez. Pouha is a fan favorite and is a good stuffer, but he is 33 years old and has a pretty hefty salary. Tebow will not be traded, so cutting him is the only think the Jets can do.
At the end of the day, I think the Jets will part ways with Scott, both smiths, Pace, Tebow, and Pouha.
