If the Jets decide not to go edge-rusher in round one, they need to target one in one of the next few rounds. There is a chance Eli Harold is not there for the Jets in the second round, but if he is the Jets should pull the trigger. Harold has an amazing motor and great athletic ability. He needs some development, but the upside is enormous. He recorded 7 sacks during his junior season at Virginia. At 6'3, 247, Harold has prototypical size for a 3-4 outside linebacker.
2) Nate Orchard, Utah
I like Orchard a lot for the Jets in the second round. The edge-rusher put up 18.5 sacks his senior year for Utah. He is high motor player, who will work hard every play. He isn't freakishly athletic, but he is a very savvy pass-rusher. At 6'3, 250, he will not remain a defensive end in the NFL, but would become an outside linebacker for the Jets. Orchard is a very mature kid, and a smart pick in round 2.
3) Lorenzo Mauldin, Louisville
If any one in this draft class is going to play with a chip on their shoulder, it's Lorenzo Mauldin. Mauldin was in and out of 16 foster homes as a child. As a player, he is aggressive, hard-hitting, and versatile. Mauldin transitioned to outside linebacker this past season and was great. He had some durability issues in college, but would provide great value for the Jets if they could get him in round 3.
