Players to Avoid:
The one name on this list that might surprise you is Mike Iupati. The Jets have a need at guard and Iupati is a proven solid starter. However, I really would not feel good about throwing him a ton of money. Iupati is outstanding on run plays, but he cannot pass-protect for his life. I would much rather see the Jets go after guys like Orlando Franklin and Clint Boling. At quarterback the Jets have major question marks, but the big names like Hoyer and Locker won't help. Hoyer got off to a great start last season in Cleveland, but was even worse than Geno Smith down the last stretch of the season. Locker, a former first rounder, has a ton of talent but can't stay on the field. I want quarterback depth that is reliable. Reggie Bush is a flashy name, but does not have much flash in his game anymore. Bush is coming off a terrible season and would not make sense for the Jets. I don't expect the Jets to go after Julius Thomas, and that would be great. Thomas is a nice red-zone target, but a lot of his play was a result of Peyton Manning. No reason for the Jets to throw big money at a tight end when they have a developing young stud in Jace Amaro.
Players to Avoid:
The Jets need to stay as far away from Greg Hardy as possible. Hardy has so much talent, but his off the field issues are scary. His issues are Ray Rice times ten. This would not be the ideal move to start the Maccagnan era. I really like Ndamukong Suh and I think he changes an entire defense, but he makes no sense for the Jets. The Jets defensive line is the strongest unit on the roster (Harrison, Wilkerson, Richardson), and it would not be smart to pay a tackle a ton of money when you have so many needs. In the case David Harris departs to Buffalo or somewhere else, a middle linebacker could be in play for the Jets. Although he is coming off a fantastic season in Dallas, McClain is facing a suspension and may just be a one year wonder. In the secondary, there are three veterans I would not sign. Williams and Finnegan are two washed up corners who got burnt a ton this past season. We all know Antrel Rolle well from his time across town with the Giants. He is getting up in age and is really not as effective as he used to be.
