Payton became the head coach of the Saints in 2006 and rebuilt a team and city so devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Payton has a career head coaching record of 67-37, and won a super bowl in 2009. He has a great relationship with Drew Brees and sure knows how to coach an offense.
While I would love Payton to coach the Jets, the chances of it happening are slim to none. First off I do not think The Jets are going to fire Rex Ryan after the season. The second reason is the fact that if he hits the fee agent market, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will write him a blank check to coach the Cowboys. It would be good for the Jets, but it is a dream.
