Seahawks offense vs. Jets Defense
The Seahawks are led on offense by rookie qb RUSSEL WILSON. THE ROOKIE FROM WISCONSIN HAS CERTAINLY HAD HIS MOMENTS THIS YEAR. fROM THE HIGHS OF THE CONTROVERSIAL TD PASS ON THE LAST PLAY ON MONDAY NIGHT EARLY IN THE SEASON AGAINST THE PACKERS, TO THE LOWS OF A HORRIFIC GAME A FEW WEEKS AGO AT THE 49ERS. HE HAS HAD THE UPS AND DOWNS THAT A NORMAL ROOKIE QB WILL HAVE. NONETHELESS, WILSON CAN MAKE PLAYS WITH HIS FEET AND HIS ARM. COACH PETE CARROLL SEEMS TO TRUST HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS. WILSON CAN CERTAINLY BE RATTLED, BUT SO FAR HE HAS BEEN VERY GOOD AT MOSTLY KEEPING HIS COMPOSURE AND WINNING GAMES.
THE SEAHAWKS SURROUND WILSON WITH A GOOD RUNNING GAME. Marshawn lynch is a tough downhill runner, the kind of guy the jets usually struggle with. lynch is a guy that is difficult to tackle, can carry guys yards down the field and will run the same way on carry 30 that he ran it on carry 1....hard. the jets need to stack the box and gang tackle lynch as much as they can.
the seahawks passing game is pretty well balanced. On the outside, Golden Tate and Sidney Rice give Wison big targets to throw to. Rice and tate have both become big play guys. kyle wilson will probably take tate and will really need to lock him down. the jets would much prefer if wilson had to dump down all day to tight end zach miller, who won't hit you with too many big plays.
The jets biggest issue has been lack of pass rush. we can only hope that the bye week has solved some of these issues and the jets can force wilson and the Seahawks into some mistakes.
The seahawks boast a very good defense, and they are even more difficult to play at home. Seattle has a very solid defensive line that gets after the qb hard. Defensive end Chris Clemons has 7 sacks on the year and is a very disruptive force. he will line up against d'brickashaw ferguson, who will have his hands full keeping him away from mark sanchez. The linebacking core is once again a solid group, who play the run pretty well. The best known player here is Leroy Hill, who plays on the outside. He holds the edge well and can get to the qb here and there.
The seahawks back 4 are very good. Cornerbacks brandon Browner and RICHARD SHERMAN PLAY TIGHT COVERAGE AND HAVE MADE PLENTY OF PLAYS ON DEFENSE THIS YEAR. THEY HAVE COMBINED FOR 6 INTERCEPTIONS ALREADY THIS YEAR. Earl Thomas is a hard hitting safety who backs up the two corners and has two interceptions as well. Mark Sanchez needs to be very careful when going after these guys in the secondary, or they can turn it around going the other way real fast.
tHE BIGGEST OBSTACLE THE JETS OFFENSE WILL HAVE TO OVERCOME THIS WEEK WILL BE THE 12TH MAN AS SEATTLE LIKES TO CALL IT. THE SEAHAWKS CROWD IS PROBABLY THE LOUDEST IN THE NFL AND GIVES OPPOSING OFFENSES ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS WHEN THEY COME TO VISIT. THE CROWD LOVES NOTHING MORE THAN CAUSING FALSE STARTS FOR THE OPPOSING OFFENSES. THEY HAVE A METER IN THE STADIUM THAT ADDS TO THE TOTAL WHEN THEY MANAGE TO GET ONE. COMMUNICATION WILL BE A BIG KEY FOR THE JETS OFFENSE ON SUNDAY. A LOT OF SILENT COUNTS...MAKING SURE EVERYONE IS ON THE SAME PAGE.
This is going to be a very difficult game for the jets to win. coming off the bye week after the embarassment at the hands of the dolphins 2 weeks ago, this team should be fired up and ready to go. west coast games are not easy for east coast teams, but for some reason, and i have no idea why, i just get the feeling the jets are going to be in this in the 4th quarter and are going to find a way to win it. don't know why i say that, but it's just the way i feel.
jets 20-seattle 17.
