pats offense vs. jets defense
the patriots boast one of the most dynamic offenses in football. led by future hall of fame qb tom brady, the pats offense is about as efficient an offense as there is in football. the pats have very little trouble moving the ball up and down the field. brady has a ton of receiving options to work with. wes welker and brandon lloyd are his two main wide receiver weapons. welker is an almost impossible cover in the slot, while lloyd, whose numbers are not what people thought they would be, is still a big downfield, home run threat. Antonio cromartie will most likely get the assignment of covering lloyd and taking away the big play. that leaves the welker job to the inconsistent ellis lankster, who is undoubtedly going to need help on welker, as there is no way he can cover welker one on one. the jets will need to use bracket coverage, with yeramiah bell probably helping out on welker.
THE JETS DO GET A BREAK WITH THE PATS LOSING TIGHT END ROB GRONKOWSKI TO A BROKEN FOREARM. HE IS BRADY'S BIGGEST WEAPON AND AN IMPOSSIBLE COVER FOR ALMOST ANYONE IN THE LEAGUE. WITH HIM OUT, THE PATS WILL NOW USE A BANGED UP AARON HERNANDEZ AND RECENTLY SIGNED VISANTHE SHIANCOE AT TIGHT END IN THE PASSING GAME. hERNANDEZ IS A VERY GOOD PLAYER, BUT NEITHER ONE OF THEM IS AS EXPLOSIVE AS GRONKOWSKI. THIS IS A BIG BREAK THE JETS GET FOR THIS GAME. THEY NEED TO FIND A WAY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.
THE PATS HAVE ALSO IMPROVED RUNNING THE BALL THIS YEAR, USING STEVEN RIDLEY AND DANNY WOODHEAD OUT OF THE BACKFIELD. BOTH OF THEM BRING SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO THE GAME, WITH WOODHEAD BEING THE BETTER RECEIVER OF THE TWO. THE PATS ARE EXTREMELY DIVERSIFIED ON OFFENSE. THE JETS HAD BETTER BE READY FOR ALL THEY CAN BRING.
MUHAMMED WILKERSON HAS HAD AN EXCELLENT SEASON FOR THE JETS ON THE DEFENSIVE LINE AND HAS REALLY BROKEN OUT THE LAST TWO WEEKS. THE ONLY WAY TO REALLY STOP THE PATS IS TO GET A BIG PASS RUSH AND GET PEOPLE IN BRADY'S FACE. IF WILKERSON, COPLES AND COMPANY CAN'T FIND A WAY TO GET PRESSURE TONIGHT, IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT FOR THE JETS DEFENSE. THEY'VE RUSHED THE PASSER BETTER THE LAST FEW WEEKS. THEY HAD BETTER HOPE THE TREND CONTINUES TONIGHT.
JETS OFFENSE VS. PATRIOTS DEFENSE
The jets offense played last week against the rams the way the team had hoped it would play all year. they ran the ball effectively, only had mark sanchez throw the ball 20 times and they were efficient in using short passes, play action passes, and hitting downfield plays here and there. they were as diversified as they had been all year. granted, it was against a below average st. louis rams team, but the jets needed some confidence, and they should have gotten it from last weeks performance.
the jets have discovered that a 3 man option at running back is the way to go, with Shonne Greene, Bilal Powell and Joe mcknight all splitting up the work and each getting some opportunities. mcknight should absolutely be used more, especially in the passing game. he is their one true speed gamebreaker on offense and needs to see the ball more often. The jets ran it for over 120 yards last week as a team. it will be tougher to do this week with the great vince wilfork holding down the middle of the patriots defensive line. wilford is an absolute beast in the middle and is very difficult to move. nick mangold and the two guards are going to have to do everything they can to get some push against him in order for the jets to get something going on the ground.
still, in order to beat the pats, you have to be able to throw on them. the patriots are a "bend but don't break" defense who really give up a ton of yards. sanchez threw for 328 yards against them in the game earlier this season. The pats are very weak in the secondary and need to be exploited there. Jeremy kerley had a huge game last time and should be able to find plenty of holes in the pats secondary again. chaz schilens and stephen hill need to also get seperation and give sanchez a chance to make some plays here. YOU DON'T WANT TO THROW IT 40 TIMES AGAINST THEM, BUT A SOLID RUN GAME SHOULD OPEN UP MORE IN THE PASSING GAME. hILL IS ESPECIALLY NECESSARY THIS WEEK....HE'S HAD HIS TROUBLE WITH DROPS, BUT HE NEEDS TO GET IT TOGETHER NOW. HIS DEEP SPEED IS A BIG WEAPON THE JETS COULD USE THIS WEEK TO GET CHUNKS OF YARDS AGAINST THE PATS.
IN ORDER TO MAKE THESE PLAYS, THE JETS OFFENSIVE LINE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO PASS PROTECT BETTER THAN THEY DID LAST WEEK IN ST. LOUIS. EARLY IN THE GAME LAST WEEK, SANCHEZ WAS UNDER A TON OF PRESSURE AND GOT SACKED A LOT. Against the pats pass rush, especially jet killer rob ninkovich, they need to give mark a pocket to throw out of. IF MARK HAS ENOUGH TIME, HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE SOME PLAYS AGAINST THIS DEFENSE. THE PATS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE MISSING CHANDLER JONES AS WELL, SO THEIR PASS RUSH IS GOING TO TAKE A HIT. IT'S UP TO THAT LINE TO PLAY VERY WELL AND GIVE THE JETS A CHANCE TO WIN THIS GAME.
THE JETS ARE A TEAM THAT HAS A NARROW PATH TO VICTORY EVERY WEEK. THEY NEED A LOT TO GO RIGHT IN ORDER TO DO IT. THEY'RE GETTING SOME ENORMOUS BREAKS THIS WEEK WITH JONES AND GRONKOWSKI BOTH BEING OUT. THEY SHOULD BE FIRED UP FOR THIS GAME...A NATIONAL GAME ON tHANKSGIVING NIGHT AT HOME AGAINST THEIR MOST HEATED RIVAL. THE JETS SEASON HANGS IN THE BALANCE HERE...ANOTHER LOSS PROBABLY PUTS THEM OUT OF THE PLAYOFF RACE. THEY NEED TO BE AS DESPERATE FOR A WIN AS THEY CLAIMED THEY WERE LAST WEEK.
I THINK THEY PLAY WELL TONIGHT. I THINK THEY GIVE THE PATS ALL THEY'VE GOT. I ALSO THINK THEY COME UP A BIT SHORT. BRADY WILL FIND A WAY TO WIN THE GAME AS HE USUALLY DOES. THE PATS GET JUST ENOUGH DONE AND GET OUT OF JERSEY WITH A THANKSGIVING NIGHT WIN.
