San Fran offense vs. Jets Defense
The 49ers offense is led by qb Alex Smith. Smith is not going to overwhelm you with his talent, but he has consistently made the right decisions and gone out of his way not to lose games for the niners. He turned it over last week for the first time in over 200 passes. He's smart with the ball and runs an effective offense. The Niners love giving the ball to running back Frank Gore, who can pound it inside or outside and feels the more he gets the ball, the better he is. On the outside, the 49ers best weideout is Michael Crabtree, who after years of inconsistency, seems to be coming into his own a bit this year. He's not a deep threat, but Crabtree can run slants and outs with the best of them. He's a good possession receiver. The niners big play guy though undoubtedly is tight end Vernon Davis. Davis is monster coming off the line, almost impossible to bump because he can run you over if you try to do so. He is a terrible mismatch for any team in the league, but especially the Jets who have all kinds of trouble covering tight ends. Davis is a big play threat every time he's on the field. The Jets would be wise to use bracket coverage on him with a linebacker and a safety and let someone else try and beat them. Davis is just too good to cover one on one. This is a tough matchup for a Jets defense that has been underwhelming so far. They've not played the run well THIS YEAR AND FACE A TEAM THAT LOVES TO RUN IT AT YOU. tHE jETS DEFENSIVE LINE NEEDS TO STEP UP AND PLAY VERY WELL THIS WEEK IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN THE RUNNING GAME. wITHOUT dARRELLE rEVIS NOW, aNTONIO cROMARTIE AND kYLE wILSON BECOME THE TOP TWO CORNERS. While this is not a game where they're going to be challenged a ton I dont think, it's a good game to get their feet wet knowing they are the main guys out there now.
