Dolphins Offense vs Jets Defense
The Jets should have a big edge here. Ryan Tannehill has been thrown into the fire here as a starting quarterback and while his numbers last week were better than week 1, he is still a VERY young NFL quarterback. Rex Ryan's schemes and blitzes should be able to fool the novice QB. Tannehill has relied a lot on going to Brian Hartline, who is the Dolphins #1 wideout. He has targeted Hartline 19 times in 2 games, with Hartline making 12 catches. Even if Darrelle Revis doesn't play, the Jets should be able to contain the Dolphins very week passing game, which also includes a decent tight end in Anthony Fasano. The one guy who can hurt the Jets is Reggie Bush. Bush had a VERY BIG game against the Raiders last week, getting 172 yards on the ground. His speed, quickness and shiftiness will give the Jets all kinds of headaches. The Jets need to concentrate full attention on Bush. If he gets loose, it could make this game tighter than it should be.
Jets Offense vs. Miami Defense
After a great week 1 performance, the Jets offense came crashing back to Earth in a dismal outing against the Steelers. They were unable to run the ball effectively, and Mark Sanchez was only able to complete 10 passes the entire game, after starting 4 for 5 with a td. The Jets receivers couldn't get seperation and the offensive line play dropped considerably from week one. All together, a very poor performance by the offense in Pittsburgh.
The Dolphins front 7 has been pretty good. They have not allowed a 100 yard rusher in their last 16 games, which isn't a good sign for the Jets supposed Ground N Pound offense. Karlos Dansby is a very good middle linebacker and plays the run very well. The problem for the Dolphins is that their secondary is extremely thin and pretty week. While Sean Smith is a pretty good cornerback, the remainder of the Dolphins secondary is not impressive at all. The preseason trade of Vontae Davis has made the Dolphins especially susceptible at the other cornerback position. If the offensive line of the Jets protects well, the Jets should be able to hit some big plays in the passing game this week. This game is tailor made for Stephen Hill to come alive again, after being a no show in Pittsburgh last week. The Jets should be able to get chunks of yards in the passing game, assuming they give Sanchez enough time to throw.
