Chris Ivory has been a very solid player for the Jets the past two seasons after being acquired for a fourth round pick. The 27 year old ran for 821 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2014. He is a fan-favorite, as he is powerful and is a very reliable back. However, with new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, his future with the Jets is unclear. For one, Chris Ivory is a free-agent next season. Many have said that he is a poor fit in Gailey's offense. One of the reasons being his poor receiving skills. The scheme fit, injury history, and age, lead me to believe there is a good chance this is his last season with the Jets. If Stevan Ridley is healthy, he is a much better fit in the offense.
Stevan Ridley being healthy is a big if. The Jets signed Ridley away from the rival Patriots. Ridley is coming off of a season in which he missed most of due to a torn ACL. He is progressing, but may have to start the year on the PUP. He rushed for 1,263 yards in 2012, but who knows if he will ever return to that level. I really like Ridley, but he is far from a sure thing for the Jets.
The rest of the guys on the depth chart are Bilal Powell, Zac Stacy, and Daryl Richardson. Powell is a very reliable player, but will never be anything besides a rotational player. Stacy had a huge season in 2013, but heavily regressed in 2014. Stacy is the only running back on the roster who will not be a free agent next year. But, there is a question whether he will make the team out of camp this season. Daryl Richardson is another former St Louis Ram. Richardson was on the Jets practice squad last season, and has a high chance of getting cut once again.
The Jets should be very solid at running back in 2015. I like the group they have, with the power of Ivory, speed of Ridley, reliability of Powell, and upside of Stacy. After this season, it will be interesting to see what Mike Maccagnan does with the position. The Jets could look to resign a couple of these guys, or they could look to draft a running back early next year.
