After one season playing for the Jets, DT Kenrick Ellis is already getting into trouble with the NFL. Ellis was first arrested in April 2010 and was charged with a felony in Virginia. But just this week, Ellis accepted a plea-bargain agreement. Had he been convicted, he would have been deported because he is not a U.S. citizen. Knowing Ellis had legal issues, the Jets still drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft, and know as a Jet fan, I am not sure if that was such a great pick. Without putting his talent into consideration, the legal woes would be enough to steer me a away from him.
Kenrick is scheduled to appear in court Monday, when the judge likely will approve the plea agreement and maybe hand down a sentence. The agreement includes six months of jail time. The victims lawyer, S. Howard Woodson, said that under Virginia law Ellis would have to serve 90 days behind bars, with time served being counted.
