The jets added a field goal late in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the jets gave up two field goals (the only points by the Pats in the half) and brought the game into OT. In Overtime the Patriots got the ball first and got one first down then punted to the jets. The jets ran 14 plays for 56 yards. On the 10th play of the drive the jets sent nick Folk out for a 56 yard field goal to win (which was a bad decision in the first place.) He missed it wide left but there was a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty on the patriots. The call was on the Rookie DT Joe Vellano, he pushed his own guy into the center which is a illegal move. This reminded me of what the Cleveland Browns used to do in the 1960's. They would form a pyramid to block the field goal, the NFL made that illegal. What Vellano did is a tactic that can't be done. Nevertheless the jets ran the ball three more times and Nick Folk kicked a game winning field Goal making him 16-16 on the season with three game winning kicks.
Geno Smith besides the pick six played wonderful. Going 17-33 with 232 yards passing 1 touchdwon and one interception and has a passer rating of 71.9. Tom Brady didn't throw a touchdown for the second time in three weeks. Chris Ivory, who was Acquired on draft day from the saints for a 4th round draft pick, ran for 104 yards on 34 carries. The worst player for the jets was TE Jeff Cumberland who caught three balls for 41 yards but dropped three balls, two of which would've been a first down and the other would've been a touchdown. Defensively Quinton Coples was awful even though he had one sack. Antonio Allen had a pick six as said before and he also guarded Gronkowski in the second half and shut him down. Muhammed Wilkerson played great once again with one sack and overall the jets owned the line of scrimmage on both offense and defense. Josh Cribbs was back there for returns and had one return for 17 yards but he really shined by letting punts go and rolling into the end zone something the jets haven't seen all season. I would expect Punter Ryan Quigely to get cut this week after 6 punts for an average of 40 yards which isn't good. TJ Conley and Robert Malone who have both played for the jets in the regular season are free agent punters.
Rex Ryan and the jets coaching staff coached mostly perfectly, except for kicking the 56 yard field goal. The jets ran the ball a lot maybe too much but we got the win and thats all that matters.
The jets go into Cincinnati Next week facing a Bengals team that has won the last three games including today on a game winning field goal from former jets Kicker Mike Nugent. I think the jets have what it takes to improve to 5-3 but the jets haven't won a single game this year on a 'even week' next week being week 8.
