The Jets number one target in the draft right now should be Dante Fowler. The team did not address the outside linebacker position in free agency and it remains a major need. Fowler is a beast, recording 8.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss this past season. He is so athletic and has an incredibly high motor. Adding Fowler to all the talent on this defense would be amazing. There is a solid chance he is picked before the Jets are making their choice at six.
2) Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson
Vic Beasley has risen up fast into a top target for the Jets. Just like Fowler, he fills a major need at outside linebacker in this 3-4 defense. Beasley is such a complete player, who has drawn comparisons to Von Miller. He recorded 12.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss during his senior season at Clemson. Beasley would start right away and be the type of prospect who can make a huge immediate impact.
3) La'el Collins, OT, LSU
Not a lot of mocks have La'el Collins going to the Jets, but I think it makes a ton of sense. Collins is my favorite offensive lineman in this class, as he is very athletic and has the potential to stay at tackle in the NFL. The Jets have not made any huge moves on the offensive line during free-agency, adding James Carpenter and resigning Willie Colon. Collins could start right away for the Jets.
4) Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
I would pass on Mariota and I like what the Jets have going at quarterback with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith, but if he is there at six the Jets would have to think about it. Mariota has drawn comparisons to Colin Kaepernick/Russell Wilson, because of his ability to make plays with his legs. He threw 42 touchdowns at Oregon this past season, while winning the Heisman, Mariota is a prospect who needs to sit and learn for a little before becoming a starter in the NFL.
5) Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska
Randy Gregory has an insane upside, but he also carries a certain bust potential. Physically he is 6'6 and is super athletic off the edge. He would be an outside linebacker on the Jets defense. He is lean and needs to bulk up, but if he reaches his potential he will be an All-Pro player.
