Through three games, the Jets defense had been amazing. They are ranked fifth in total yards before the Monday Night game, tied for third in sacks, and have shut down running backs like Doug Martin and CJ Spiller. The defensive line led by Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon RIchardson has been amazing, and this young defense had looked great under Rex Ryan this season.
2) Great Offensive Line
A power football team needs a great offensive line. Rex Ryan loves to power with his backs, and this year the offensive line has let them. Led by Nick Mangold, Austin Howard, and D'Brickashaw Ferguson, with new starters Vlad Ducasse and Willie Colon, the Jets offensive line has done a great job. In the game yesterday against the Bills, Geno Smith was not sacked once. Great job, offensive line.
3) Weak Schedule To End season
While the schedule has not been so tough to start the year, it gets really hard in the middle. The Jets have to take on teams like the Falcons, the patriots, the Bengals, the Saints, and the Ravens. While this is tough, in their last five games, they face the Dolphins twice, the Raiders, the Panthers, and the Browns. THey also have the Steelers and the Bills again this season.
4) Geno Will Progress
Geno Smith has been exciting to watch, but just like every rookie he has made some rookie mistakes. All of the mistakes he has made are fixable, as he has showed he has the poise, the toughness, and the arm to be a star quarterback. As the season goes on, and Geno gets more experience, I expect him to not turn the ball over as much.
5) holmes is Back
Last season and through the first two games, the Jets missed their deep target. In week three, the Santonio Holmes of the past re-emerged, The former Super Bowl MVP had five catches for 154 yards, and the game-winning touchdown. After rehabbing from the Lisfranc injury for so long, it appears Holmes is very close to 100%. Having a true number one target is huge for Geno Smith.
