It is almost certain that the Jets will cut ties with former first rounder, Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was the Jets starting quarterback for four seasons, but never took the next step forward. He has been a turnover machine and missed all of 2013 with a shoulder injury. The Jets get $8 million in cap room if they release Sanchez. Sanchez has 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions over his career.
Holmes gets paid like a number one receiver, but in recent years he has been a no-show. This season he posted just 23 catches and 1 touchdown, missing time with countless injuries. Holmes also helps the Jets cap if they cut him. Holmes has a sort of diva personality, something I don't think John Idzik likes in his locker room. Holmes is a goner from the Jets.
If I am the Jets, I would let Jeff Cumberland just walk in free agency. Cumberland got a lot of playing time at tight end this season, and showed he is not a starter. Cumberland posted 26 catches and 4 touchdowns on the year and would be absent in some games. The Jets can certainly do better at tight end.
After having an outstanding season in 2012, Cromartie was awful in 2013. He got beat countless times by wide outs and was looking silly on the field. Cutting Cromartie would help Jets in the salary cap department. While I wouldn't rule out a 1 year low salary deal, I doubt Cromartie is back with the Jets in 2014.
Ed Reed did some nice things while with the Jets, but he also looked done at times with the Jets. The veteran is a first ballot hall of famer, but his best days are way behind him. He had three interceptions in seven games with the Jets, but was beat for long plays multiple times. Rex and idzik should let him walk.
