Winslow Catching a TD vs the Rams
Kellen Winslow Jr. one of the best tight ends in the game, also one of the most controversial told the media today that the Bucs have told him that his services would not be needed anymore. Which means he would be traded to any teams that may be interested in him. On draft day there was some speculation that the Jets would trade Dustin Keller but obviously, they didn't and they have been looking for that second tight end that teams like the Patriots, the Packers and the Saints use. Winslow would be a great guy to have for that, plus it would be cheap given the fact that the Bucs don't want him so no one is going to buy him high. If the Jets did it would probably be for a 3rd or a 4th and 7th round draft picks for the 2013 NFL Draft. Winslow, a former Miami graduate always caused turmoil in the Browns and Bucs locker room. He went to Miami during the "Glory Days" or shall I say the Days when everyone playing for the U was a criminal and adding him to this circus in NY could either hurt them or help them. We all saw Vernon Davis get subbed out in a game one year when him and then head coach Mike Singletary got into a feud, and it seems like he ended up growing up scoring a huge touchdown last year in the playoffs to get past the Saints into the NFC Championship game.
But is it possible that Winslow could grow up in a party town like NYC? Plus how would he and Rex Ryan clash? Most importantly how would he and Keller clash? This move would probably benefit the Jets in Red Zone scoring but could hurt the Jets in key moments in a tight game or in a tight stretch in the season. Winslow who has 92 games played,437 receptions, 4,836 yards caught, averages 11.1 yards a catch, and has 23 touchdowns in his NFL pro career has never had a great quarterback. When he was in Cleveland he never had a good one and Freemen only had one good season with Winslow. Sanchez loves to throw to Keller and would love Winslow too. But this move could be way to risky for the Jets. I say pass.
