Greene scoring a touchdown last year
Coming into OTA's the running backs on the roster are Shonn Greene, Joe McKnight, Bilal Powell, and Terrance Ganaway. Will they be good enough? Will all know Rex and Tony love ground and pound, but will they really be able to? Shonn Greene has shown flashes of greatness as a Jet. In his first full season as a starter he put up over a 1,000 yards and scored 6 rushing touchdowns, while only fumbling once. Greene is a bruiser and needs to stay healthy for the Jets. The rest of the backs are inexperienced. Joe McKnight, the flashy return man has come to training camps overweight. Last season in 43 rushing attempts he put up 153 yards, which is an average of around 3.1 yards a carry. I don't think Joe McKnight can be a backup running back for the Jets. The next two backs are guys the NFL has not seen before. Second year kid Bilal Powell, Jet draft pick in 2011, had only 13 rushing attempts last season and managed only 21 yards. I have really seen anything to judge him on, but Rex says the kid has got potential.
The last back on the Jets roster is 6th round pick in the 2012 draft, Terrence Ganaway. Ganaway is a monster when it comes to trucking through defenders, and ran for over 1600 for Baylor last season. He could be a nice piece for the Jets. Right now I really think the Jets have one really solid back in Greene. A quick solution could be to sign former Packers running back Ryan Grant, but I think Rex wants to give the young guys their chances. If you think about it Tim Tebow is the Jets backup running back, which is a reason I think the Jets did not add more proven guys in the backfield. For the Jets backs it will be boom or bust this year, they have a lot of potential, but it all depends on how they perform.
