The 28 year old Alex Smith was the first pick in the 2005 draft. He struggled over his first few years, and the 49ers were a bad team. Smith threw one touchdown and 11 interceptions during his rookie season! When Jim Harbaugh took over before the 2011, Alex Smith changed. In a season and a half with Harbaugh, Smith has thrown 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This worries me, why was his play so poor before? Is Alex Smith a product of a system? Smith does not have a great arm, but he is a game manager. He would not be a fit for the west coast offense and needs a strong supporting cast to succeed.
Smith is just a product of Harbaugh, and I would hate to see the Jets overpay for him. While there are not many sexy quarterback options, Smith is a guy I pass on.
