On Sunday in Green Bay with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Jets were down 31-24 and had the ball. It was 2nd and 13 and the Jets decided to put Michael Vick in the game at quarterback. He took the snap and ran left, he searched and searched and was eventually sacked by Clay Matthews. It was a very unproductive play and put the Jets in a 3rd and 16 situation in a critical spot in the ball game. Taking out Geno Smith at various points of the game could end up hurting him. Geno needs to find a rhythm and being subbed out won't help.
Thinking in the long-term, the Michael Vick package is not smart. If Vick comes in, scrambles and gets hurt, the Jets lose their insurance plan for Geno Smith. Vick is their only quarterback option with real NFL experience. Vick is an injury prone player, who should be in a game unless Geno Smith gets hurt.
Now I understand Marty Mornhinweg and Vick's relationship. Marty was his offensive coordinator in Philadelphia for a while and understands how talented Vick is. Having said that, it is time for the Vick stuff to stop.
