In the first round, my hope is the Jets can land Vic Beasley or Dante Fowler. However there is a slight chance both could be off the board at the sixth pick. If this is the case and Randy Gregory is on the board, the Jets should not be afraid to pull the trigger. Gregory may have the biggest boom factor of any pass-rusher in this draft, and compares in some ways to Aldon Smith. The news recently came out that Gregory failed the drug test at the combine due to marijuana use. I don't think this should make the Jets hesitant. His talent is to much to pass on. Also at six, the Jets should not be against taking La'el Collins from LSU. While some will say it is too early, I believe he would be a great pick. The offensive line is a major question mark for the Jets, and Collins can be a stud for the next decade at a tackle spot. I am not a huge proponent of Mariota to the Jets, but if Maccagnan, Bowles, and Gailey are sold on him, don't be shy about drafting him.
As we move along in the draft I look at guys like Dorial Green-Beckham, Todd Gurley, and Cedric Ogbuehi. Gurley and Ogbuehi are risks for injury reasons, while Beckham has a ton of baggage off the field. If the Jets have interest in any of these guys and they are on the board in certain rounds, I would pick them. All three have mega potential and talent.
This Jets team could be on the verge of something big. A home-run draft is what they need to get over the top. Certain players like Randy Gregory are super-talented but carry risks. Mike Maccagan shouldn't be afraid of these type of players.
