Geno Smith got the start, starting off nicely. After a good second drive, Geno was awful. He ended the game 16/30, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions. The offensive play-calling was vanilla, and Geno made a lot of rookie mistakes. The worst play may have been running to the back of the end-zone and getting a safety. WIth a good outing would of won Geno the starting job, but the bad showing drops him down.
In a bonehead decision, Rex Ryan decided to put Mark Sanchez in with the backup offensive line in the fourth quarter of the game. After Geno struggled, Rex should of known Mark was his week one guy and not to risk injury. Sanchez went out and got nailed by Marvin Austin, hitting the ground hard and hurting his shoulder. Sanchez will get an MRI tomorrow, but this is not good for the Jets.
Right now, neither guy deserves the starting job. If Sanchez's injury is serious, Geno will get handed the job by default. Geno still has the potential to be a good quarterback, he is just very young. I cannot wait to watch this competition unfold over the next few weeks.
