As ESPN's Tim Kavanagh reported today former Miami Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell who is the best available free agent right now, has now narrowed down his choices to four. The New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Tennessee Titans, and the Philadelphia Eagles are the four teams. He has also said they he will decide who he plays for next season in the next 24 hours. What does this mean for the Jets?
Well since our cap is narrowed down and getting a safety is one of the objectives we needed to accomplish this off-season Bell would make a lot of sense. But don't forget, we already picked up a safety, LaRon Landry a former RedSkins player. Now yes, Landry is injury prone and having injury prone Jim Leonhard and penalty prone Eric Smith as our other starters this wouldn't be a bad option. Bell in his eight seasons as a Dolphins has had 110 games played, 562 tackles, 11 sacks, and 6 interceptions. If the Jets decided to get him and if they did get him, I think the Jets would use Landry and Bell moving one of them to FS probably Bell and having Leonhard and Smith play as backups which they would use to try to not have Landry get injured again. I think Bell would be a complement to the Jets as a pass rusher in the free safety position and i think he would just be another weapon the Jets would have on the defense. He would help eliminate deep passes and would make it harder for players to get long runs past the Jets, like Tim Tebow's game winning touchdown against us. Now I know the Jets aren't the favorite to get Bell, but don't be surprised if he is with the Jets within the next 24 hours.
