Since they didn't do it, the Jets are now going with unproven Austin Howard at right tackle. I'll say this....I think it's the only thing to do. Hunter clearly has no confidence right now and they need to put someone, ANYONE, in at right tackle who thinks they can do the job right now. We may not know much about Howard, but we do know he's not Hunter. At this point, for Jets fans, that may be enough. Do we have any idea if Howard can do the job? Nope. Do we think he can be any worse than Hunter was last year? I don't think that's possible.
Howard now gets the chance to protect Mark Sanchez. He will start Sunday night against a Carolina team that got great pressure on the Dolphins qb's from the right side last week. It's a formidable test and we will see if Howard is up to it. All I know is this....even if Howard is awful.....no one will be calling for Wayne Hunter to take back that spot again.
