David Caldwell, Director of Player Personnel, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons have been extremely successful these last few years and Caldwells been a big part of it. hE'S A FORMER DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE SCOUTING FOR THE fALCONS. hE'S HELPED BRING IN mATT rYAN, jULIO jONES, AND THE REST OF WHAT HAS BEEN A VERY GOOD aTLANTA FRANCHISE THESE LAST FEW YEARS. TIME FOR HIM TO GET A LOOK AS A G.M. IN THIS LEAGUE.
Tom Gamble, Director of player personnel, San Francisco 49ers
Gamble has been in the league 24 years now and has helped rebuild the 49ers franchise from a laughing stock a few years ago to a serious super bowl contender these last few years. in my opinion, a lot of that had to do with the hiring of head coach jim harbaugh, but gamble has been there for the drafting of an outstanding offensive line, qb colin kaepernick and the signing of some seriously good free agents on defense.
Tom Heckert, former G.m. cLEVELAND BROWNS
Heckert was just relieved of his duties as browns g.m. this morning. Heckert was in cleveland for just under 2 years. new ownership has opted to move in a new direction. still, heckert was building a nice base in cleveland. the browns were beginning to see a move in the right direction under his leadership. heckert also spent years in the philadelphia eagles organization in the player personnel department, helping the eagles build a winning and very successful franchise for years. i don't know if the hiring of a former browns g.m. would fire up the jets fanbase, but heckert is a smart man and has made some shrewd moves, including getting a boatload of draft picks from the falcons when they moved up to get julio jones. Jets would be smart to take a good look at heckert.
Marc Ross, giants director of college scouting
this may be a long shot......not often you see someone from the giants franchise go to the jets....and ross is a supposed leading candidate for the carolina panthers g.m. job. still, ross is a local guy the jets should know a lot about. the giants have had great success the last few years in the draft. He's right under the Jets noses....can't miss out on at least interviewing him if he's this close.
Eric Decosta, Ravens assistant g.m.
With Rex ryan staying on as head coach, the jets might be looking to hire a guy who is familiar with ryans personality. decosta has been with the ravens for a while now, and has worked his way up to being assitant g.m. to ozzie newsome now. he was a former director of college scouting for the team. the jets should gauge his interest in seeing if he would be willing to work with ryan again...the familiarity would certainly make for a better transition to the jets front office. He may not want to wait forever for ozzie newsome to retire and take his job.
a lot of people have stated the job may not be as attractive because you don't get to pick your own coach. with rex ryan having only one year left on his deal, the g.m. may be able to pick his own guy a year from now anyway. if rex doesn't have a bounce back year next year, he's probably the next one out the door. there are only 32 g.m. jobs in football.....there will be someone willing to take on the job of rebuilding this organization.
