1. sAW THEY HAD JOSH CRIBBS IN FOR A VISIT. iF THEY CAN FIND A WAY TO GET HIM SIGNED AT AN INCENTIVE BASED DEAL, THEY SHOULD DO IT. CRIBBS IS AN OUTSTANDING KICK/PUNT RETURNER AND AN ALL AROUND PLAYMAKER ON THE FIELD. tHE JETS SIMPLY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH GUYS LIKE THAT ON THEIR ROSTER. GET HIM THE BALL AND GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN. I KNOW HE HAS A HISTORY OF KNEE INJURIES...STILL WOULD BE WORTH A SHOT TO ME.
2. I LIKED WHAT THEY DID IN THE DRAFT. DEE MILLINER PLAYED CORNERBACK AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN COLLEGE AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO STEP RIGHT INTO THE STARTING LINEUP. THERE WERE SOME SCOUTS WHO HAD SHELDON RICHARDSON RATED AS THE TOP RATED DEFENSIVE LINEMAN IN THE DRAFT. YOU CAN ALWAYS USE MORE LINEMAN TO ROTATE IN AND OUT ANYWAY. ALWAYS HELPS TO ADD TO THE DEFENSE AS WELL.
AS FOR GENO....I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD HAVE AVOIDED THE QB THIS YEAR, BUT TO GET THE TOP RATED QB IN THE SECOND ROUND IS WORTH A SHOT. SMITH CERTAINLY HAS THE ATHLETICISM TO BE ABLE TO SUCCEED AT THE NFL LEVEL. IT WILL NOW DEPEND UPON HIS WORK ETHIC AND HOW HIS SKILLS TRANSLATE TO THE NFL. WE SHALL SEE.
Loved the Brian Winters pick later in the draft. They say he has a nasty streak in him, which is certainly what this Jets team needs again on the offensive line. He should plug in eventually at guard. Overall, thought the draft went as expected with John Idzik. Nothing too flashy...filled some holes...took best players available on the board. Can't go wrong there.
3. The qb situation will be interesting. This is really sanchez's last shot. Let's see if the gENO sMITH PICK FIRED HIM UP ENOUGH TO COME IN AND REALLY COMPETE TO TAKE THIS JOB. tEBOW WAS NO THREAT LAST YEAR AND MARK KNEW IT. GARRARD AND SMITH ARE NOW REAL COMPETITORS FOR HIS JOB. mARK IS GOING TO HAVE TO EARN IT. I don't think they should cut mark or move him before the season. garrard is too injury prone, and if smith isn't ready, they don't have anyone else to play (please don't talk to me about greg mcelroy). Sanchez should stay as insurance, assuming he doesn't win the starters job, until they feel smith is ready to take the job full time. Unless, all of a sudden, mark becomes the player the jets thought they drafted five years ago. hard to see it happening now, but you never know. either way, i think opening day, sanchez is your starter.
4. Hear people raving about the chris ivory trade. i'm a wait and see kind of guy. i know the saints threw the ball a lot and ran a different kind of offense than most people do, but ivory wasn't on the field a lot for them. he is a tough physical back, which is good to see. still, i'm not predicting 1100 yards here until i see more of him. i'm not sure anyone knows what they're going to get out of ivory at this point. Do I like the addition? Yes. Do I know what's going to happen? Not at all...and neither does anyone else. It's one thing to look good in short spans...it's another to keep it up when getting the ball 250-300 times a year.
