Gholston has been the biggest bust the NFL has seen over the last 5 years. He was a total washout with the New York Jets, unable to bring pressure to the QB like he did while at Ohio State. After Eric Mangini was fired, Rex Ryan was incredibly confident that he could get the most out of Gholston. He swore up and down Gholston was going to be his pet project and you would see the talent that made Vernon a top pick in the draft.
Alas, even the great defensive mind that is Rex Ryan couldn't get anything out of Gholston. Ryan even had a player PICK A FIGHT with Gholston to see if BIG VERN would show a pulse. Nothing ever came of him and he was released after Ryan's first year as head coach. The Chicago Bears brought him in last year, but Gholston was cut before the season even started.
So, the question remains...what on Earth do the Rams think they are going to get out of Gholston? They can't want him for his ability to get to the qb, because he has shown he has none. I can't imagine he'll be useful on special teams. So what is it that Jeff Fisher and the Rams see in Gholston? I guess we will find out soon enough. Let's see if Vernon Gholston can get a quaterback sack and then have one more NFL sack than I currently do.
